Graffiti, outdoor escalators and a story of transformation unlike anywhere else. We climb Comuna 13 with the school, understanding what its walls tell — in Spanish.

Few visits say as much about Medellín as Comuna 13. One of the city's hardest-hit neighbourhoods is now an open-air museum: graffiti that narrates memory and resistance, outdoor escalators that changed the lives of thousands of neighbours, music and dance on every corner.
We take the metro to San Javier and walk the Graffitour at an easy pace, stopping to talk: what each mural says, what it means to the neighbourhood, what the people who live there think. It is our students' favourite outing and a Colombian history class no book can replace.
