Our Pereira school is at Carrera 11B #1A-40, in La Rebeca, a few steps from downtown. Mister Fox Spanish School is a licensed ETDH institution (Resolution 6784 of 2022) whose Spanish program, levels A1 to C1 on the CEFR scale, is registered under Resolution 005093 of July 23, 2024, issued by the Secretaría de Educación Municipal de Pereira, and the school is listed in SIET, the Ministry of Education’s public registry. When people ask what a licensed school means in Colombia, this campus is the answer: the institution the authorities recognize, in the city that issued the licence. That matters beyond the framed resolution on the wall. Your levels are certified against an international standard, your certificates carry an institution’s name behind them, and if your plan includes a student visa, your acceptance letter is issued here, by the school itself.

Why Pereira might be the smartest place in Colombia to learn Spanish

In cities with a large expat scene you can live a year inside an English-speaking bubble: same cafés, same coworkings, same conversations. Pereira barely has one. It is a working city of the eje cafetero, where the barista, the taxi driver and your new friends all expect Spanish from you, kindly and constantly. For a language student that is not a drawback, it is the product. People here take time to talk to you, the rhythm of the coffee region is unhurried, and day-to-day costs tend to be gentler than in Colombia’s biggest cities, so your budget buys more months of study. This is the Colombia most visitors never see, far from the usual tourist trails, and it makes a very good classroom.

When class ends, the region begins. From La Rebeca you are minutes from the Plaza de Bolívar and its Bolívar Desnudo, a stroll from the El Lago Uribe Uribe park, and a weekend away from coffee farms and the wax palms of the Cocora Valley. Students here come back from their weekends with stories from coffee farmers rather than photos of themselves, and the stories get told in Spanish on Monday.

What you learn, and how

The program runs from complete beginner (A1) to advanced (C1), taught by native Spanish speakers in small groups or private classes, with an official certificate for every level you complete. Groups never exceed five students and each class hour lasts 55 minutes, so everyone speaks in every class. The method is conversation first: you speak from the first class, your teacher corrects what needs correcting, and grammar arrives in service of what you mean, not as an end in itself. Classes run Monday to Friday, plus Saturday mornings, so a serious program still fits around a real life.

Prefer to start before you arrive, or keep momentum during a travel week? Our live online classes run with the same teachers and the same method and mix freely with in-person weeks. Online and private classes can be moved or cancelled with 24 hours’ notice. A typical week here settles into a rhythm fast: mornings or afternoons in class, small enough that everyone speaks every day; homework at a café where the waiter has quietly become your second teacher; evenings, whatever the city offers, and Pereira offers itself in Spanish. By Friday you notice that the language stopped being a subject and became the medium your week happens in. That shift is the whole point, and it arrives faster here than almost anywhere we know.

Student visas start here

If your plan is the long one, six months or more, Colombia’s type V student visa is the route, and Pereira is where our acceptance letters come from. The Visa Program carries the study load the visa expects, 40 hours of classes per month for one to fifteen months, with tracked attendance and a certificate per completed level. One school, three campuses

Our Medellín campuses, in Laureles and Belén, run the same program and the same levels, so students move between cities without losing their place. Start in the coffee region and finish in Medellín, or the other way around: your certificates and your teachers’ notes travel with you. Laureles is the livelier, more international campus, Belén the quieter and more local one, and Pereira the place where the school began and where the licence lives.
