Colombia Student Visa for Brazilians

The Colombia student visa for Brazilian citizens: visa-free entry, cartório apostilles, the acceptance letter — and the cure for portuñol.

Brazilians arrive in Colombia as neighbors, not strangers — same continent, cousin language, shared rhythm. That closeness is a superpower and a trap at once: portuñol gets you everywhere and teaches you nothing. Here is the student visa path for Brazilian citizens, and how structure turns proximity into fluency.

Entering Colombia with a Brazilian passport

Brazilian citizens enter Colombia without a visa for short stays: an entry permit on arrival, normally 90 days, extendable to 180 days within the calendar year. Direct flights link São Paulo and Bogotá, and the border is a continent-neighbor formality compared to intercontinental travel. Verify current entry rules with official Colombian sources all the same.

Portuñol is not a level

Every Brazilian speaks survival Spanish on day one — and many still speak exactly that on day five hundred. Mutual intelligibility removes the urgency that forces real learning. A structured program restores it: CEFR levels A1 to C1 with placement tests that put you where you actually are, teachers who separate the two grammars instead of letting them blur, and certificates that mark real ground. The Visa Program concentrates the work: 40 hours of classes per month, about 10 hours a week, from 1 to 15 months.

Documents from Brazil

The application is filed online with the Colombian authorities, anchored by the acceptance letter and completed with a valid passport, recent bank statements, photos and apostilled documents where required — in Brazil, apostilles come from the authorized cartórios, usually a same-day errand. Portuguese documents still need an official Spanish translation where the file requires it, close as the languages are.

We are a government-licensed ETDH institution (Resolution 6784 of 2022); the Spanish program is registered by Resolution 005093 of 2024 with the Secretaría de Educación Municipal de Pereira and listed in SIET. Reserve your Visa Program with a 15% deposit and the carta de aceptación is issued by the school directly. PRIMERA15 takes 15% off your first package.

Almost no jet lag, no excuses

Colombia runs just one to two hours behind most of Brazil, which makes our live online classes effortless from home: an evening class in Medellín is an evening class in São Paulo. Start online, arrive placed above the portuñol line, and spend your Colombian months refining instead of untangling.

Brazilians ask us

Do Brazilians need a visa to enter Colombia?

Not for short stays: an entry permit on arrival, normally 90 days, extendable to 180 within the calendar year. For a study-anchored stay beyond that, the type V student visa applies. Confirm current rules with official Colombian sources.

Is Spanish worth formal study for a Portuguese speaker?

That is exactly when it is worth it: intelligibility hides the gaps. A real placement test plus structured levels separates the grammars — the difference between being understood and being correct.

Where do Brazilian documents get apostilles?

At the authorized cartórios, before departure — usually quick. Documents also need official Spanish translation where the file requires it.

Do online classes work from Brazil?

Better than from anywhere: one to two hours of difference. Evening classes in Medellín are evening classes in Brazil, with the same teachers you will meet on campus.
