Portuñol is not a level
Every Brazilian speaks survival Spanish on arrival, and many still speak that a year later, because intelligibility removes the urgency to learn. The false friends are the first trap, since a word that looks familiar often means something else, and Portuguese vowels slip into Spanish unnoticed. Documents from Brazil
The application is filed online with the Colombian authorities. Around the acceptance letter you add a valid passport, recent bank statements in your name, photos to specification, proof of health cover and apostilled documents where required, obtained before you travel. In Brazil the apostille is a short errand at an authorized cartório, which makes it tempting to leave for last; do it early anyway, because a document with a mistake means a second visit. Portuguese documents still need an official Spanish translation where required, close as the two languages are.
The acceptance letter comes from the school
We are a licensed ETDH institution (Resolution 6784 of 2022); our Spanish program is registered by Resolution 005093 of 2024 with the Secretaría de Educación Municipal de Pereira and listed in SIET, the Ministry of Education registry. Almost no jet lag
Direct flights link São Paulo and Bogotá, and Colombia runs one to two hours behind most of Brazil, so an evening class in Medellín is an evening class in São Paulo. Not for a short stay: you receive an entry permit on arrival, normally 90 days, extendable to 180 within the calendar year. A longer stay built around study needs the type V student visa.
Is Spanish worth formal study for a Portuguese speaker?
Most of all then, because intelligibility hides the gaps. A placement test and structured levels separate the two grammars: the difference between being understood and being correct. A certificate per CEFR level also gives an employer something to read.
Where do Brazilian documents get apostilles?
At a cartório authorized to issue apostilles, before departure, usually within the day. Not every cartório is authorized, so check with the office before you queue, or use the list published by the Conselho Nacional de Justiça.
Do online classes work from Brazil?
Yes, and they are live with the teachers you will meet on campus. The time difference is small enough for after-work classes, so you can arrive already placed above the portuñol line.
